Science Travel-Study
One of my new found passions is teaching outside of the classroom in nature. Travelling with students is a truly rewarding experience. In 2017, I started the science travel-based learning program for Edina High School.
Each summer, a group of students participate in an international science field experience. All expeditions are coordinated and run through the conservation research organization, Operation Wallacea. Students participate in conservation research while exploring a new country and culture in a wilderness setting. Expeditions typically last two weeks and consist of a terrestrial and marine week. Students are involved in all aspects of planning, fundraising and preparation for the trip itself.
Students perform pre-travel, travel and post-travel coursework and receive a semester high school credit. The course will be focused on the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the theme, "Think Global, Act Local" (see flow chart to the left).
