Teach with Global Education as a tool!

How do I implement Global Education in my classroom?

It may seem daunting to implement global education into an already packed full curriculum. However, if you view it as a tool of teaching your current standards instead of teaching a completely new thing, it can be very seamless, easy and FUN!

Solving the Global Plastic Problem

Fulbright TGC Unit Plan

Global Plastic Problem Unit Plan

As a part of my Fulbright TGC program, I developed a globalized unit plan. I chose my organic chemistry and polymer unit to fully integrate global education. Click on the link above to see my full unit plan. Click links below to see assignments I developed and used in my real classroom in the spring of 2019!

Global Plastics Unit Plan in action!

As educators, we know lesson plans evolve as they come to life! I was lucky enough to merge my TGC unit plan with my National Geographic certified educator unit plan. See the video below to get a taste of parts of my unit plan!

Interested in global education learning opportunities?

Global Education is (fittingly!) a very far reaching global network of educators who are passionate and dedicated to this work. Want to learn more about it and dive into the global education world? Here is a list of resources and opportunities! Click on the title to check them out!

1. Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms

The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) is a program for any U.S. K-12 educator. Participants take part in a 12 week Global Education course, attend a Global Education Symposium in Washington D.C. and have a two to three week International Field Experience. This program was one I personally took part in and it was a turning point in my career and in my life in general. I have met a network of educators who are incredibly supportive and collaborative. I experienced Morocco with a purpose and my perspectives have shifted for the better. I feel as though I am a better person and educator all around!

2. National Geographic Certified Educator

I received my certification in the summer of 2019! I was amazed at how it meshed so well with what I learned from TGC. I am an environmentalist at heart, so this was an amazing course for me to take. I learned more about how to connect the natural world with the human world. Educators from around the globe take part in this course and National Geographic gives educators the chance to work with explorers who are on assignment all over the world. What an amazing way to connect your students to real-life expeditions! As a certified educator, you have access to opportunities like this and many more resources!

3. Harvard Think Tank on Global Education

This education course run by Harvard is an amazing way to further your global education skills or as an introductory course! I took part in this course in 2019 and I was connected with educators from around the country with many different pathways in their careers. It provided an amazing framework for educating global citizens. I met amazing educators and came back to my classroom with concrete lesson plans and implementation strategies for global education.

4. Harvard's Educating Global Citizens course

If Boston is a little too far and the tuition is a little too spendy for you, Harvard offers an online version of this course! At just $149, this course provides an introduction to global education as well as framework for implementation.
